Apache Junction in Arizona was incorporated in 1978 and takes its name from the Apache Trail. Apache Trail was a stagecoach trail running through the Superstition Mountains and was originally used by the Apache Indians. The city itself is at the base of these mountains, approximately 22 miles east of Phoenix.
